Kyle Lindsey’s ’69 Chevelle: Sheet Metal Replacement

By now, most of you are familiar with YouTube personality Kyle Lindsey aka Saabkyle04, who in between countless restoration projects, building a shop, and renovating his home, has been restoring his wife Christal’s 1969 Chevelle Sedan. Check out the post below including videos covering the classic sedan’s current progress with a focus on sheet metal replacement.

The Chevelle originally belonged to Kyle’s wife’s grandmother. Kyle and his wife Christal had been wanting to get the Chevelle back on the road since they trailered it to their home in 2017. The plan for the sedan was to keep as much originality on the exterior and interior while upgrading the mechanics with modern features.

Kyle took a leap right into the long-awaited project, tearing out the interior, stripping out the dash, and sandblasting the frame. As he prepared the rusted Chevelle for much-needed metal and bodywork, something that was not Kyle’s strong point, he knew he was going to require a talented assistant to keep the project going.

Mediablasting & Floor Pan Replacement

Earlier this year Kyle introduced us to Joe, his new business partner, and the talented individual who would be assisting with body and sheet metal work. First, the guys show the process behind media blasting the body, which will yield the cleanest foundation for all of the bodywork and sheet metal replacement to follow.

Trunk Pan Replacement

Kyle and Joe then begin rebuilding the back of the Chevelle using a combination of sedan-specific and coupe parts from Original Parts Group. This was a process that needed to be covered over multiple videos due to the complexity and creativity that was involved. For the first video, they focus on replacing the Chevelles rotten trunk pan with OPGI’s one-piece trunk pan that was designed to give the option of repairing the large, middle area of the trunk floor.

Rear End Rebuild

In the next video, Kyle and Joe tackle the rear quarters, tail section, and the outer wheelhouse. The guys have to improvise using the tail panel as their guide to make a complete 2-door quarter panel work in place of a 4-door quarter panel.
