It’s all in the Details: 1978-87 Regal Upper Dash Panel

When shopping for your restoration it is important to understand that while a part may be correct for your project, it might not be of the best quality. In the image above you can see the color differences between the two panels. The panel often sourced by competitors has a blueish tint, while the panel sourced by OPGI is true to the original factory gray.
In the second set of images, you can see discoloration and swirls throughout the plastic in our competitor’s version. This type of defect is common in injection-molded plastic parts. The disparity can arise from a number of causes, such as overheating, contamination, or manufacturing error. The panel sourced by Original Parts Group has a consistent color and grain throughout its ABS plastic composition.
In the image of the part on the left, you can see the white background through the vent slits, this indicates that the vents are not slitted at an angle as the originals were. It is harder to see through the vent on the right as the slits were cut at an angle.
One of the most important differences between the two panels is their strength. While it is hard to show the strength of a product in an image you can tell that the competitor’s panel droops more than the panel OPGI sources. Wobbly material is something you definitely want to avoid when replacing your dash panel.
One last minor difference can be seen in the hole punctures. The holes on the panel on the left seem to be of an irregular shape while the punctures on the OPGI sourced panel are cleaner and appear more consistent.
