OPGI Customer Car Feature: Chris Decker’s ’67 Elco

Back in ’97 OPGI customer, Chris Decker spent less time partying and more time wrenching, making sure his first car, a ’67 El Camino, was reliable enough to get him to and from high school every day.

Now 23 years and 3 engine swaps later Chris finds his El Camino turning into a father and son project car. Though his boy is only 7 years old he has been showing interest in helping out his Dad and recently helped him disassemble the last engine.

Chris’ El Camino named the “Cruck” following the most common Elco debate (Is an El Camino a car or a truck) was converted into a 6-speed manual early on.

Over time the “Cruck” went from a streetcar to a faster streetcar to a race car. That was until his little boy started attending “Cars & Coffee” with him and back to streetcar it went.
