Jimmy Smith’s 1972 Monte Carlo

OPGI customer Jimmy Smith of Weogufka, AL recently sent us a few of photos of his 1972 Monte Carlo. Jimmy is the car’s second owner, having purchased the Monte in 1975. Technically, Jimmy’s car is a Monte Carlo Custom – the Custom being a one-year-only model. It was ordered with the 454 4-bbl., TH400 tranny, bucket seats, console, Rally Wheels, and all other factory options except cruise control and power windows. The Monte went through a complete restoration between 1999-2001, using many parts picked from the OPGI Monte Carlo catalog. The car has won many trophies at various shows over the years.

A Brief History of this 1972 Monte Carlo

For the 1972 model year, there were only 1,268 Monte Carlos built with the 454 engine. 11,227 units were built with the Turbo Hydra-Matic transmission. This particular car was manufactured at the Baltimore, MD assembly plant in late 1971. It was then shipped to Stamey Chevrolet in Cleveland, GA. The original MRSP was $3,362.

Jimmy tells us he was 39 years old when he bought his Monte, and is now 82. Congratulations on many years enjoying your car, Jimmy – we hope you enjoy many more! – OPGI
