Although Original Parts Group Inc. (OPGI), Customer Wade Pearson is the owner of this super nice 1987 El Camino, that relationship may soon change, as the car is currently up for sale. We’d have to guess that it must be with some sadness that Wade will part company with his prized (and prize-winning) El Camino. We’d also venture to guess that he’s not likely to find another one as clean as this if he ever changes his mind and wants to build another El Camino at a later date.

Wade’s El Camino is a one-of-a-kind classic when you consider that despite being 28 years old, the odometer registers just 26,000 original miles, all driven in California, as the car has spent its entire life in the mild southern California climate. Prior to Wade’s ownership, the vehicle was part of a private collection that sat in storage for over 16 years. Originally sold in Pasadena, California at Jack Wall Chevrolet, this El Camino still wears its original license plate frame and Wade is in possession of all the factory documentation including the original Dealer Shipping Order. It also retains its original, numbers-matching factory drivetrain consisting of a 305 cubic inch V8 with 4-barrel carb, THM 700R4 transmission and 3.08 rear end. The car was ordered with a list of factory options that included power windows, power brakes, power steering, air-conditioning, AM/FM/cassette stereo system, cruise control, factory rubber bed mat and a tilt wheel.  It was also ordered with some fairly unique options like the turn signal indicator lamps mounted on the top of the front fenders (similar to Cadillac items), an ornate hood ornament, and front fender mud guards, all installed at the factory. Features added by Wade include chrome plated bed side rails, BF Goodrich Comp T/A tires and all of the brakes, belts and hoses are new too. Wade also installed a new AC compressor/evaporator and a custom radiator to help the El Camino keep its cool in the California sun. The car retains its original chrome bumpers, trim, and two tone paint. The interior is also factory original with the Saddle Tan vinyl bench seat, tan carpeting and brown vinyl headliner all remaining in near-perfect, excellent condition.

Here at OPGI, we liked Wade’s El Camino so much that we put it on the cover of our 2011 1978-88 El Camino/Monte Carlo Restoration Parts Catalog. Wade recently told us “I have truly enjoyed owning my El Camino for the past five years, and I hope I can find a good home for my Cover Girl. This vehicle is a collectable, prime, unmolested example of one of the last El Caminos produced by GM, and if you missed buying one in 1987, here’s your chance to own a true classic that drives like it left the showroom floor today.”  Wade is asking $19,000 for his classic El Camino and at that price, we think it would be difficult, if not impossible, to build a classic El Camino as nice as this one today. Update: the El Camino has been sold.
