OPGI’s 1966 Chevelle For Sale!

Originally, JH Restoration built this car to reflect the style OPGI President and Founder Dave Leonard might have ordered back in 1966. While the interior and exterior colors deviate from the original factory specs, the team began a comprehensive frame-off restoration in 2005. At that stage, they decided to apply a striking Artesian Turquoise exterior paint. Additionally, they paired the car with a matching two-tone turquoise interior to complete the custom look.

Rare Factory Options & Performance Specs

In order to maintain the stock appearance of a ‘plain Jane’ SS396, the restoration team painted original-style 14-inch steel wheels in Artesian Turquoise. Furthermore, they installed OPGI’s reproduction dog dish–style hubcaps to complete the period-correct look. F-70-14 Coker Firestone redline wide oval tires perfect this simple look, especially since these tires tie in with the red color found in the taillights and emblems. Finally, to prioritize modern drivability, the builders selected a 200R4 automatic overdrive transmission over the original two-speed Powerglide automatic.

A GM Design Award Winner

Unveiled at the 2007 SEMA Show in Las Vegas it earned the prestigious GM Design Award for Best Original Car. Despite initial hesitancy, its restoration for the show revealed its remarkable rarity. While the L34 396 engine was common with 24,000 Chevelles made with this option, its inclusion of power windows and four-way bucket seats set it apart. Only 3,164 ‘66 Chevelles were equipped with power windows. Even more, a mere 587 featured four-way bucket seats. This 1966 Chevelle is for sale.
