Everyone loves a family-owned classic, and that is exactly what Original Parts Group customer Rich Scandaliato has with his ’67 Grand Prix Convertible. The Grand Prix has been in Rich’s family since it was purchased in 1967 from Rockville Center Pontiac in Long Island, NY by his father. It was not long after that the Grand Prix was trailered all the way to California when the family decided to move west.
Ten years later, the car was gifted to Rich on his 16th birthday by his father. The two completed the award-winning frame-off restoration together in his garage over a two-year period. It was the ultimate father-son project. Nowadays they enjoy attending many car shows, including the OPGI Classic Car Show, as well as cruises along the California coast with the rest of the family.
Rich’s Grand Prix model is the ultimate in personal luxury, with a stylish appearance, sporty drive, fast afoot, and full of fun facts. Did you know that the ’67 was the first (and only) model year that Pontiac produced a drop-top Grand Prix? It was also the first Pontiac with the hideaway headlight and windshield wipers. Of the 42,981 made, only 5,856 Grand Prix’s were convertibles. Pontiac produced 1,313 Grand Prix convertibles with a 428cu, 376hp option. This particular example came with a 3:90, slip differential rear, 8-lug wheels, and an eight-track player, amongst other options.
