The GTO Returns

Earlier this month Original Parts Groups ‘66 GTO made a safe and sound return from Franklin, Tennessee where it was being worked on and filmed over a few episodes of Powernation TV’s Detroit Muscle.  Marc and Tommy handled a little bit of exterior and some interior as well as the installation of the convertible top with some assistance from Mac McDonald of Wyotech.

Upon the GTO’s return, our in house build team was ready to get their hands dirty again and dug right in. Wiring was the task at hand and most importantly to ensure the GTO was safe to drive, we needed lights. We used a classic update GTO wiring kit from American Autowire to wire premium replacement lights from Delta Tech. Each wiring kit is packed with original style light sockets, switch body connectors, bulkheads, terminals, switches and more.  Once the wiring was completed they installed RESTOPARTS manufactured headlight bezels that are custom-tooled to perfection. OPGI introduced these precise reproductions in 2007.

Next up on importance (to me anyway) is the wiring of the stereo, because music is a must when you’re cruising in your ride. The guys are currently running wires to connect a modern stereo that has a timeless look with OEM style push-buttons as well as the speaker and amplifier set, “The System” from Custom Autosound. Sets feature satellite speakers that resemble air conditioning vents and can be mounted in a variety of locations. This set is ideal for excellent sound quality. The woofer is best suited for under seat mounting, but can also be mounted in the trunk and that is what we decided to do.

Even though we are spoiled with pretty amazing weather here in sunny Southern California, heat in our vehicles during the early winter mornings out here is still necessary and pretty important to us too. The guys will be reassembling and wiring the heater control panel to keep us warm in the cold winters, cool in the warm summers and spoiled all year round.

The guys will continue with all of their final touches to get the GTO show ready. We hope that you are able to make it out to Original Parts Groups SEMA booth #23987 at the Las Vegas convention center this year to check it out. We will also have it proudly displayed at our Spring Summer Series car show in 2020 (date TBD). If you live in So Cal or are visiting during the summer be sure to stop by.

Oddly similar to my 67 Grand Prix. Similar color, rally IIs, Parchment interior.
