SEMA 2017: OPGI Returns to SEMA

Since 1982, Original Parts Group, Inc. has been in the business of manufacturing and retailing the finest quality GM restoration parts and accessories in the industry. This year at the 2017 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show, OPGI made headlines with their brand new booth and the two pristine muscle cars they brought along to go with it.

OPGI has had a display at the SEMA show since the late ’90s, showing off countless General Motors restoration parts, including the most popular and brand new products that were just released from OPGI’s RESTOPARTS® line of premium quality parts. These parts are meticulously engineered to give customers the fit and finish that any top shelf restoration deserves. With thousands of interior and exterior parts to choose from, OPGI will have the emblems, mirrors, door handles and trim that are highly sought after by GM enthusiasts.

The 2017 SEMA show marked a change of how OPGI wanted to show off their impressive line of parts by having a brand new booth manufactured. Their new booth is laid out over 1,200 square feet and was specifically set up to give visitors a real two car garage feeling. With functioning roll-up garage doors, this two-story booth had hundreds of parts on display that showed off their offerings for classic A-bodies, G-bodies, full-size Pontiac, Riviera and Cadillac.

Like always, OPGI brought two beautiful cars that show off the extensive list of parts they offer, and this year they outdid themselves. An all original 1987 Buick Grand National and a 1970 Chevelle with a 396 and a 4-speed. The Grand National was a one in a million find. With slightly over 9,800 miles on the clock, this almost perfect Buick came with all the original paperwork and service records. According to those records, the car spent most of its life parked with only 811 miles put on between 1994 and 2014. Found on Craiglist, OPGI was able to strike a deal with the second owner and brought the car home. After a full service and a thorough detail and paint correction, their Grand National is a beautiful yet sinister example that would be considered fast even today.

The other car they had on display was a black, with white stripes 1970 Chevelle SS 396, 4-speed. This is an example of what OPGI is know for – period correct restoration. This Chevelle was restored to factory specs inside and out, and shows what that car was like right off the factory floor. What’s better than grabbing gears in a big-block Chevelle? Being able to take it home. The Chevelle that was featured in the OPGI SEMA booth will be given away to one lucky person as part of the Chevelle Dream Giveaway.

OPGI’s own Colin Date met up with John Trousdale of Power Automedia to give a brief overview of their new booth and the spectacular cars they brought along.

Lou and Jared from CarFix stopped by to check out some of OPGI’s newest G-body and Cadillac products and were nice enough to stick around and sign some autographs.
