Our East Coast customers are the best, and they have it harder than the rest of us who restore old cars. Why? Take a look at the images of our stripped 1964 Corvair Spyder convertible to see what we mean. Purchased from the third owner in Long Island, New York, the rust is actually not as bad as we’ve seen in many east coast projects.
While our guys here at Original Parts Group worked on the getting the inside right, we sent the body off to Elite Restoration in Bellflower CA. As you can see in the gallery below, some pieces of the body were beyond repair. Luckily the guys over at Elite Restoration had a bit more leeway pulling sections from a ’62 Corvair junker acquired by OPGI. Next up, engine work, suspension, and brakes. Keep an eye out for our next blog post documenting the process of this build.
In the U.S., Chevy’s El Camino was the most successful at blending a passenger-car platform with the utility of a truck’s cargo bed. It was in production from 1964 through 1987, but its popularity continues today. So much so that one artist, Bob Luczun, decided that a 1986 El Camino would be the perfect car to turn into a tribute to the history of the United States. At 69 years old, Luczun began to hand paint iconic moments throughout U.S. history all over his El Camino, finishing at age 72. Luczun said, “The El Camino was perfect for my needs as an artist. The car will now live on forever, representing the history of the United States of America.”
Original Parts Group held the second show of their Spring Summer Series on June 9th with an all-Pontiac Show. With an awesome, fully-restored 1968 GTO of their own, and a deep love of the Arrowhead brand in general, OPGI was loving on all that cruised into the show bright and early. There were a bunch of beautiful GTOs, a slick Catalina on bags, a nice custom Gasser, some classic looking Bonnevilles and so many more sweet rides.
In April 2018, OPGI attended the 31st Annual Seal Beach Classic Car Show. Each year over 500 classic car owners come to show off their rides to the nearly 25,000 visitors that attend the show. Original Parts Group Inc. had a nice set-up right on the corner of Main and Electric Avenue, showcasing four of their cleanest black rides. Take a look at some of the photos that were captured from the event.

Our 2018 Spring-Summer Series kicked off with an all-Buick car show on Saturday, May 19th. We had around 50 beautiful Buicks in our parking lot in an array of models, years, and colors. With drawings, food trucks, and a live DJ, you didn’t have to own a Buick to get in on the fun! Those who did bring their Buicks had their cars judged, and the winners were awarded trophies.
Introducing our latest project car – a little-on-the rough-side 1964 Corvair Monza Spyder (turbocharged). A diamond in the rough? We think so. This is an all-original Z-Body (the letter-based platform designated by General Motors for the Corvair 500, Monza and Corsa models) hails from Long Island, NY. We purchased the car from its 3rd owner in March of this year, and had it trailered to OPGI headquarters here in Seal Beach, California.
Included in the purchase of this battle/rust worn little Spyder was a palette stacked with numerous NOS parts, most in their original GM packaging. These parts ranged from trim to mechanical components – all will be put to good use restoring this classic from 1964!
The plan is to completely disassemble the car, right here at OPGI. The body will ship out to be professionally restored and painted, more than likely back to its original paint hue of Goldwood Yellow. Every square inch of our Corvair will be restored back to its “off the assembly line” condition. Stay tuned and follow along as our progression continues!

When Dave first bought this car 20+ years ago, he had some crazy visions for it. The 1970-’72 Chevelles have a particularly tough look – something to make any muscle car enthusiast yearn for. Dave is a high-performance guru and building the car up to a competitive racer was option one.
