Why Prices Are Rising in 2025 — And What We’re Doing to Help

A Message from Original Parts Group

For 43 years, Original Parts Group has proudly served the automotive restoration hobby — from weekend warriors to professional shops — delivering the best in parts, service, and support. Today, we want to be upfront with you about a serious issue affecting our entire industry: global tariffs are significantly raising the cost of imported goods, and that means major price changes are coming.

While you may not feel the full impact just yet, we’re already seeing the first signs — and we’re doing everything in our power to minimize disruption and hold prices stable for as long as possible.

What’s Changing — And When Will It Hit?

The U.S. government recently enacted a new wave of tariffs on imported goods, and that includes many of the components used to manufacture and supply the classic car parts our hobby relies on. While it may take 3 to 6 months for the full effect to be felt, some suppliers have already increased their prices, and we’ve been forced to adjust pricing on certain items as a result. While it’s possible these tariffs may be short-lived — potentially used as a bargaining tool to open more foreign markets to U.S. goods — we have  to operate under the assumption that they are here to stay, at least for the foreseeable future. Until there’s more clarity from Washington, we’re planning responsibly and doing everything we can to protect our customers from prolonged cost increases. Our analysis shows that we may see cost increases ranging from 30% to 90% on imported items — particularly those sourced from Taiwan, China, India, and other key manufacturing regions.

Why Domestic Sourcing Isn’t the Answer

We understand the desire to source domestically — and we share it. But in the automotive restoration world, the unfortunate reality is that most GM restoration parts simply aren’t manufactured in the U.S. anymore.

The specialized tooling, materials, and factory expertise needed to produce these components have long since shifted overseas. While some assembly may happen stateside, most of the materials and production capacity exist abroad — and it would take years to rebuild that infrastructure here.

This isn’t just our challenge — it’s an industry-wide truth.

How OPGI Is Taking  Action

At Original Parts Group, we take pride in being more than just a parts supplier — we’re your restoration partner. That’s why we’ve taken several key steps to help protect our customers from the immediate effects of these increases:

  • We’ve secured pre-tariff inventory on high-demand products to keep pricing stable as long as possible.
  • We’re monitoring supply chain trends daily, adjusting prices only when absolutely necessary.
  • We’re keeping you informed, openly and honestly, just like we always have.

What You Can Do Now

If you’re working on a build — or even thinking about one — we strongly recommend ordering sooner rather than later. The majority of inventory we have on hand now is priced under pre-tariff conditions, but as those supplies run out, new stock will reflect increased import costs.

43 Years Strong — And Still Here for You

Since 1981, Original Parts Group has been here for the restoration community — through good times and tough ones — and we’re not going anywhere. We’ve weathered economic changes, supply chain shifts, and parts shortages before. What’s never changed is our dedication to our customers and our passion for keeping classic cars on the road.

We’ll continue to fight for the best prices, clearest communication, and highest quality in the industry — just like we’ve done for over four decades.

If you have questions about a specific part, need help finding an alternative, or want to plan ahead for an upcoming project, our team is here to help.

Thank you for your loyalty and trust,

The OPGI Team
