OPGI’s 1966 Chevelle For Sale!
Built by JH Restoration to reflect the style OPGI President/Founder Dave Leonard might have ordered back in 1966. The interior and exterior colors deviate from the original. Commencing with a frame-off restoration in 2005, the decision was made to opt for an Artesian Turquoise exterior paint paired with a two-tone turquoise interior.
To maintain the stock appearance of a “plain Jane” SS396, original-style 14-inch steel wheels were also painted Artesian Turquoise, and OPGI’s reproduction dog dish–style hubcaps were installed. F-70-14 Coker Firestone redline wide oval tires perfect the minimalist look, tying in with the red color in the taillights and emblems. Prioritizing drivability, a 200R4 automatic overdrive transmission was selected over the original two-speed Powerglide automatic.
Unveiled at the 2007 SEMA Show in Las Vegas it earned the prestigious GM Design Award for Best Original Car. Despite initial hesitancy, its restoration for the show revealed its remarkable rarity. While the L34 396 engine was common with 24,000 Chevelles made with this option, its inclusion of power windows and four-way bucket seats set it apart, with only 3,164 ‘66 Chevelles equipped with power windows and a mere 587 featuring four-way bucket seats, and this 1966 Chevelle is for sale.
This Chevelle isn’t just a classic car; it’s a celebrity in the automotive world. Featured in multiple editorial features on Motortrend and Hot Rod, showcased in ads, blogs, emails, and numerous car shows, it’s even graced the screen in our latest commercials and past promotions. With its star-studded history, it’s been photographed alongside Automotive TV host Cristy Lee and more.
Beyond its rarity, this Chevelle offers exclusive features including a special gauge package, power brakes, power steering, air conditioning, and a simulated wood grain steering wheel. Get a better look at it in the video below.
