In Original Parts Group’s ongoing series, ‘Enthusiasts Tell Their Stories’, we’re excited to feature Clifford Washington and his 1972 Monte Carlo. Clifford started restoration with a mission beyond simple refurbishment. His goal was to showcase the power of perseverance and determination.
Take a look at Clifford’s Monte Carlo before the restoration. The initial stages of restoration, carefully documented through numerous images, showcase essential undercarriage work, a new drive shaft installation, a manual transmission upgrade, and rear axle enhancement.
Significant upgrades were made under the hood. Clifford replaced the original carburetor with a QP 750 Double Pump Carb, boosting the engine’s performance. Additionally, he improved the air filter unit for maximum efficiency. Clifford refurbished every aspect of his Monte Carlo, replacing the manual transmission with a 400-turbo automatic and installing a new 2500-stall high-performance starter. He also incorporated a high-performance Big Block 454 with a new cam and installed a brand-new aluminum radiator.
Further enhancements included a new 3-inch dual exhaust and headers for peak engine performance and road presence. Clifford also focused on upgrading the shocks, brakes, and lines to enhance performance and safety.
Clifford opted for RESTOPARTS for his 1972 Monte Carlo to ensure authenticity and precision. Each part was chosen to uphold the car’s original charm from wheel opening moldings to door dill plates, ashtray, pedal pads, windshield molding set, rear edge hood molding, fender top edge molding and inside door handles. Clifford recently ordered our premium stainless steel fuel tank for his Monte Carlo.
Clifford enhanced his Monte Carlo with modern underglow lights, adding a subtle yet stylish touch to its appearance. These sleek LED lights provide a contemporary feel both inside and out, while also improving visibility on the road. Paired with efficient LED headlights, Clifford’s Monte Carlo stands out with its unique presence, appealing to classic car enthusiasts of all ages.
Inside, Clifford upgraded the Monte Carlo’s interior with a new dashboard, classic American Muscle gauges, custom floor mats, new upholstery, and a rearview mirror. Additionally, the car is equipped with surveillance cameras featuring recording capabilities at both the front and rear, enhancing safety and security during drives. Clifford also added new Alpine speakers, subs, and tweeters to the sound system.
Looking ahead, Clifford hopes to find a buyer who appreciates the uniqueness of his Monte Carlo. But for now, he will continue to maintain the classic with help from OPGI. Clifford said, “I am truly grateful to OPGI for supplying me with the original parts needed to correctly build and restore my MC.”
Stay tuned for more customer stories in this ongoing series and don’t forget to request OPGI’s newly available 2024 Monte Carlo restoration parts catalog, covering models from 1970 to 1977.
