Personalized Luxury was the concept behind the 1970 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, and from 1970-’72 they remained similar, featuring only minor trim and detail differences between them. Though the SS option was dropped, a new “custom” package was available for 1972 only, which included an upgraded suspension.
As for Original Parts Group customer Larry Cooper’s 1972 Monte Carlo, it remains luxurious and having gone through a 2-year restoration in 2000, this car is “about as new as they come”, says Larry.
Looking at it, it’s hard to believe the paint job is 23 years old. Only putting 2,000 miles on it since restoring it, the previous owners kept the Monte in good shape for future owner Larry. Larry acquired the Monte 5 years ago after having another ’72 he restored catch fire.
It was a complete frame off, all matching numbers, and to this day runs and drives flawlessly. The interior of the Monte is all original, with the exception of a replacement carpet, and an updated stereo for better tunes. Larry also went with 17-inch Ridlers wheels, tubular suspension, and shocks from OPGI, which made the driving experience much more enjoyable.
Larry and his son Kenny love to drive the Monte Carlo and take it to Car Shows when the weather permits in Noblesville, Indiana. Kenny above, holding one of the many awards it has won over the years.
Larry says that even though his Monte was given a frame-off restoration years ago, using OPGI parts over the years he has found OPGI to be his go-to source when needing quality replacement parts. Check out some of our parts that help keep the Classic show-ready and Larry and Kenny on the road.
